David Best at the studio

David Best and Tallulah Terryll

David Best has been working at Magnolia lately, using the laser cutter to translate drawings into three-dimensional pieces for his ornate wooden sculptures and creating plates for a new series of prints. Visitors to Burning Man have probably seen the enormous temples Best builds (and destroys) at the desert festival every year.

Mel Ramos also stopped by with his daughter Rochelle on the same day that Best's son Kelly visited the studio:

Best created numerous monoprints at Magnolia in the late 1980s and early 90s; Nick Stone is currently working on a catalog of these images, many of which have never been reproduced in print before.

Christine Eudoxie

Christine Eudoxie - Figure in Transition, 2008
Mixed media on canvas, 48 x 48 in.

Artist Christine Eudoxie, friend of Magnolia Editions for many years, visited the studio today for the first time in quite a while. It was great to see Eudoxie, who told us she has been very busy creating an interactive art installation on the web.

Using animation, imagery from her work, and music created by Eudoxie herself, the artist has created a miniature world in which her artwork weaves in and out of the life and landscape of Oakland.

Please have a look! (We recommend Firefox for the best viewing experience.)

Enrique Chagoya videos

Since the destruction of his lithographic codex The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals at Colorado's Loveland Museum by an angry zealot, Enrique Chagoya has been at the center of an unfortunate controversy and the subject of harassment by groups and individuals who obviously don't understand the spirit of his work.

One especially unpleasant aspect has been a threatening and hateful video circulating on YouTube. We don't want to draw more attention to this video by linking to it, but if you run across it, please Flag it for removal!

Also, please considering viewing more positive videos of Chagoya to bump them to the top of the search rankings: share them on Facebook, "Like" them, and add positive comments! Let's support our dear friend, teacher, and colleague.
