In anticipation of Rupert Garcia's show in early 2011 at the de Young Museum, "Rupert Garcia: the Magnolia Editions Projects," here is Garcia at the studio in 2003, working on his tapestry La Xochitl IV.
Garcia is one of very few artists who have worked at Magnolia who add hand painted marks to the surface of their tapestry editions. Actually, as you can see in this video, Garcia even uses his fingers to push the colors beyond the surface into the fibers of the tapestry:
