Past Traces at Pence Gallery

Below, photos from "Past Traces," a show of works from Magnolia Editions' twenty years of printmaking, at UC Davis's Pence Gallery earlier this year.

The show featured print editions in a variety of media by Bruce Conner, Hung Liu, Enrique Chagoya, Rupert Garcia, Squeak Carnwath, Donald and Era Farnsworth, William T. Wiley, Richard Shaw, Robert Arneson, and more.

The Missing Peace in Sibiu, Romania

Donald and Era Farnsworth's Dharmakaya tapestry, Lewis deSoto's giant inflatable sculpture Paranirvana, and works by William T. Wiley and Chuck Close are included in "The Missing Peace: Artists Consider the Dalai Lama," a traveling exhibition on view at Brukenthal Palace and the Evangelical Church in Sibiu, Romania until July 18, 2010.

The Farnsworths were in Romania to attend the opening of this ambitious show, made possible by the combined efforts of Darlene Markovich, Michelle Townsend, Ron Haak, Killian Doerr, Liviana Dan, and Anca Mihulet, and the crew of installers at Brukenthal Palace.

Much thanks also goes to Erwin Kessler, Maria Coffino, and Hanna Regev for their considerable assistance.

William Wiley at BAM and Sylvia White

On view at the Berkeley Art Museum until July 18, What’s It All Mean: William T. Wiley in Retrospect presents a fifty-year survey of the work of one of the most singular artists of our time, a well-known and beloved Bay Area figure who is also a “national treasure,” in the words of Sidney Lawrence of the Wall Street Journal.

The exhibition includes the tapestry above, published by Magnolia Editions, as well as more than eighty paintings, drawings, watercolors, sculptures, installations, prints, book collaborations, films and videos, and even a Wiley-designed, functioning pinball machine.

A survey of Wiley prints is also on view at the Sylvia White Gallery in Ventura from May 19 - June 26; this exhibition includes several Wiley tapestries and a 2009 mixed media work, Goat with Attire, published by Magnolia Editions. Sylvia White has provided a great online gallery of works from the exhibition.

Wiley will be at the Sylvia White Gallery on Friday, May 28, 5-7 pm, for a book signing.

Clare Rojas's We They, We They exhibition is coming to San Francisco's Museum of Craft and Folk Art! The show opens on May 13; Rojas will perform as Peggy Honeywell at the opening.
