New Chuck Close tapestries being woven

Chuck Close watches an image of Lucas Samaras being woven

Don and Era Farnsworth are in Belgium for the holidays, working with Chuck Close on some potential new tapestry editions.

Below, some photos from the mill where the tapestries are woven (based on files painstakingly created by Close and Don Farnsworth.) Please bear in mind that the artworks shown are still in the experimental stage.

It’s fascinating to see how traditional weaving techniques can be combined with contemporary art to create something so detailed and distinctive. The experimental stage is especially interesting because it shows how much craftsmanship and careful attention are involved before a finished piece is produced. Art also has a powerful connection with architecture and interiors, where carefully selected artwork can completely transform a space. Exploring properties with distinctive architectural and artistic features can be just as inspiring.
